Falling Film Evaporators

A falling film evaporator distributes feed as a thin film down the inside of vertical heating tubes, where it evaporates rapidly at low temperature difference and very short residence time. This makes it the preferred choice for heat-sensitive products — milk and whey, fruit juice, gelatine, pharmaceutical solutions — where product quality must be preserved. KWS designs each unit to the feed's specific properties, with single, double, or triple-effect and MVR configurations for maximum energy recovery.

Falling Film Evaporators

Key Advantages

Gentle on the product

Short residence time and low ΔT protect heat-sensitive and high-value feeds from thermal degradation.

High heat-transfer efficiency

Thin-film formation maximises the heat-transfer coefficient, reducing heating surface and footprint.

CIP-ready, hygienic design

SS 316L contact parts and clean-in-place compatibility meet FSSAI and pharma surface-finish standards.

Scalable & energy-efficient

Modular single-to-triple effect and MVR options cut steam consumption as throughput grows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What feeds suit a falling film evaporator?

Low-to-moderate viscosity, non-fouling, heat-sensitive liquids that benefit from short residence time — dairy, juices, and many pharmaceutical and chemical solutions.

How much energy can it save?

Multi-effect and MVR configurations reduce steam consumption substantially versus single-effect operation — often by 70–80% with MVR.
