Vacuum Belt Filter

A KWS Vacuum Belt Filter dewaters crystalline salts, mineral slurries and process sludge continuously and efficiently using vacuum-assisted filtration through a moving permeable belt. The feed slurry is distributed across the belt, vacuum draws filtrate through, and the dewatered cake is discharged at the end of the run — delivering a low-moisture solid suitable for handling, packing or further drying. In ZLD trains, vacuum belt filters are used for final salt dewatering after the centrifuge, or as the primary dewatering step for coarse crystalline products where centrifugation is impractical. The continuous nature and high throughput make them ideal for large-capacity operations.

Key Advantages

Continuous high-throughput dewatering

Moving belt design provides uninterrupted operation at high feed rates with consistent cake moisture.

High cake dryness

Vacuum-assisted filtration achieves low residual moisture, reducing downstream drying energy.

Flexible filtration area

Belt width and length selected to match throughput, particle size and required filtration time.

ZLD integration

Standard component in salt recovery trains, receiving centrifuge output or crystalliser discharge for final dewatering.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is a vacuum belt filter preferred over a centrifuge?

For coarse, free-filtering crystalline products where belt filtration achieves adequate dryness, or where gentle handling is needed to avoid crystal breakage. Centrifuges are preferred for finer, difficult-to-filter slurries.

Can the belt filter wash the cake?

Yes — wash zones can be incorporated on the belt to displace impurities from the cake, improving product purity. This is common in chemical and pharmaceutical applications.
